Kingston is a small touristy town northwest across Puget Sound from Shilshole Bay (Seattle). Originally a logging town, establishment of an across-the-sound car ferry from Edmonds in 1923 has firmly established this town for the half-hour tourist.
The entrance to the Marina is clearly designated, and easy to enter. Read the markers though since off to the left it's far too shallow and rocky.
The berths aren't real big, and the bigger boats usually tie up at the end where there are no finger piers. Power and water are available at the slip, and pump-out and fuel are at the fuel dock. The marina is city owned, and registration is done through a drop box at the restrooms on shore.
Many nice boats use this facility.
A nice sturdy rock breakwater protects the marina from the weather and the comings and going of the Ferry traffic that drives this community.
The Mike Wallace Memorial Park is located at the beach adjacent to the marina. It offers a very large grassy play area where, on nice days such as this, there are often several groups playing with frisbee's or tossing a baseball back and forth. There are also numerous picnic tables here.
A short walk away, the town offers you a reasonably diverse fare of dining options, and quite a few nicnak shops. The grocery store is about 15 minutes away, walking, up the hill. Might consider catching a bus at the ferry terminal if you're not in good shape as the climb can be a bit much if you need groceries. As with all tourist towns, the sidewalks roll up at the end of the day. About all that's left when evening hits are a few restaurants and the ferry lines.
I have been to Kingston many times while driving a car, and always pictured it as more of an inconvenience, but going there by boat put it in a totally different light. I enjoyed my stop there. I wouldn't make an entire vacation out of Kingston, but it's worth a day trip at least.
